About This Activity
Fan Art Reimagined: New Styles, New Stories Students explore all the ways artists put their own spin on beloved characters — from giving a favorite hero a whole new art style, to reimagining classic characters in unexpected settings (think Disney princesses in sweatpants!), to recreating a favorite scene with personal flair. Beyond being fun, these skills reflect a real path many artists take to build careers at comic cons, art shows, and markets. Students will practice drawing from reference, and learn how to use layers to trace over images and paint on top of them. Technical skills include clipping masks, brush selection, the selection tool, and the color picker — plus how to import hand-drawn artwork into Procreate and how to use reference photos within the app. iPads and Apple Pencils are provided by the MACC, though students are welcome to bring their own.
