This year's tennis program will begin on Monday, April 8th. We will take up to 40 kids into our program. Traditionally, these players were separated out to manage games and participation as consistently as we could, but we found that to be daunting with players’ moving schedules. Our goal will be to coordinate the matches so that like-ability players will play against each other as much as possible.In order to accomplish this goal, we will need to assess the players. We will hold evaluations the first week of the season, Monday, April 8th through Thursday, April 11th. If you are new to the program please fill out this form to sign up for your evaluation time that week: Tennis Evaluation Form. If you are returning to the program, I have a good idea of your play and will use the first week of matches to evaluate the remainder of the season. At this evaluation, I will also ask students about their Monday–Thursday availability throughout the season (April 8th–May 23rd). If you would like to provide that to me before the evaluation day that would be helpful as well.
This year our program will run Monday–Thursday with players having two matches a week. These matches will be determined ahead of time to ensure player availability and competitive levels are equivalent. Please know that it is going to take a considerable amount of patience and magic to set up competitive matches for up to forty players of varying abilities, with starting times at 3:30 to 4:20ish, 4:25 to 5:15ish, or 5:20 to 6:10ish, twice a week, on Mondays through Thursdays, on two courts! The natural inclination is for most parents and players to request the early starting time as much as possible. We will try to honor schedule needs, but if the early starting time is a requirement for you, this program may not work for you.
Our program is designed so that Crocker students play against Crocker students only. We do this as a convenience of having better management of a Crocker-only program and the ability to ensure competitive matches. Because our program has strong players, it allows us to control the nature of the matches. Due to the fact that there are only two courts, most matches will be doubles, but we will work to offer singles matches depending on the dynamics of the group and the scheduling of matches.
Finally, we acknowledge that there may be times when something unexpected comes up and your child may not be available to participate on a day(s) when they are scheduled or will be scheduled. It is very frustrating for a player(s) to show up for their match only to find out at the last minute, or later, that someone in their group isn't going to show up. It is necessary for us to find out ahead of time, that someone is going to be unavailable to play on a certain day or time. If your child is going to miss, please alert the coaches and Mr. G. That said, there are times when we may ask for volunteers to fill in at the last minute, which means a possible third match in one week for that player.Please let us know if you have any questions.
