Lead, Learn, and Grow – The LIT Experience at Camp Ohiyesa
The Leaders-In-Training (LIT) Program at YMCA Camp Ohiyesa is a two-week adventure for teens ages 14–15 who are ready to grow as leaders, take on responsibility, and make a difference in their camp community.
Located on the shores of beautiful Fish Lake, LITs will unplug from screens and plug into a powerful learning experience — one that blends hands-on leadership practice with classic camp fun.
What to Expect
- Under the guidance of experienced teen leadership staff, LITs will:
- Explore what it means to be a leader through group challenges and daily reflections
- Work directly with younger campers, learning how to support, lead, and role model
- Practice communication, problem-solving, and teamwork in real camp settings
- Participate in traditional camp activities while building strong peer connections
- Take part in a tent overnight on-site, plus an offsite day trip adventure
The LIT experience is all about learning by doing — preparing teens to lead at camp, in their schools, and in their communities.
We understand plans can change. Because we plan meals, staffing, and supplies ahead of time, cancellations must be emailed to camp@ymcadetroit.org by Tuesday before your session. The following deadlines will be followed:
- Written cancellations received by January 31st: 100% of paid program fees will be credited to your YMCA account for future use.
- Written cancellations received on or after February 1st: No refunds or credits will be issued. A $50 cancellation fee per child, per week will apply.
- Written cancellations received on or after April 1st: No refunds or credits will be issued. A $100 cancellation fee per child, per week will apply.
- Registration fees and deposits are always non-refundable and non-transferable

Camp registration is not complete until you have completed your online camper forms. Epact will send you an email to complete your profile - it is due one week prior to the start of the camp week.
