About This Activity

This Week's Challenge Theme: Set your sights high for this week’s challenge theme, as you navigate how to design a tower that reaches as high as possible, withstands an earthquake, and looks good doing it! What’s the trick? Each team will be challenged to use as many natural materials as possible to build their towers and base their design on patterns and structures found in nature. Put your creativity and problem-solving skills to the test, while learning basic engineering design techniques and exploring the towering natural world around us. Every Week: Welcome to Wildwood Academy’s Splash n’ Create Summer Camps — where every day includes creative blends of art and design challenges paired with outdoor games and water-based summer fun! In our Biomimicry, Art, and Engineering series, campers explore the question: How can we use the structures and patterns in nature to create innovative, artistic, and successful solutions to the challenges we face? Campers will take on a new engineering challenge each week–from towers to bridges to flying machines. They will use natural materials to build and beautify their creations–painting, stamping, dyeing, and carving their designs into existence. This blending of creative and analytical skills is mixed with the staples of Splash n’ Create Summer Camps: community games throughout the day, water play, and swimming opportunities throughout the week–all of this on top of weekly field trips and contributions to summer-long citizen science projects. Students will assist with animal track plates, plant surveys, and water quality samples to track data needed for a “Changemakers project” in the last week of summer camp. Come explore, investigate, play, design, splash, and create with Wildwood this summer!
