The Diocese of Duluth is proud to present the first annual Diocese of Duluth Adventure Marathon! We will have a Marathon, Half-Marathon and a 5K race. This is a fun, healthy event for all ages. Come and celebrate in the great outdoors of the Superior National Forest! The race takes place on Saturday, July 30th, 2022 in the great northern Minnesota city of Hoyt Lakes on the Mesabi Iron Range. Marathon and Half-Marathon start is at 7:00 AM. The 5K begins at 7:30 AM. There is an 8-hour time limit for all races. Important – this is a trail race. It will take place on dirt trails and gravel roads. The start is at the Hoyt Lakes Community Center. There will be free parking and free primitive camping near the start line on Friday night. About one mile away there is an actual campground (Fisherman’s Point) with flush toilets and showers. This campground does charge a nightly fee. There is a motel in Hoyt Lakes and one in nearby Aurora. Motels within a 25-mile radius include Eveleth and Virginia. We are about a 75-minute drive north of Duluth. We plan to have aid stations every 5–6 miles – given the wilderness we are working with it will be difficult to position them at regular intervals. This will take place in the wilderness. You might see deer, wolves, coyotes, moose and black bears. Please be respectful of all wildlife and do not approach. These animals are not tame and can be very dangerous. Proceeds from the race will help support Catholic schools in the diocese.
