In this 2-day hands-on workshop, we will explore a variety of ceramic surface techniques that can be layered to create dynamic, lively surfaces on both sculptural and functional forms. Participants will experiment with embossing wet clay by creating unique rolling texture tools that leave personal marks and impressions on their pieces. We will also explore using paper masks, printing on clay, embellishing with commercial transfers, carving, and slip-trailing designs using colored underglazes. Throughout the class, students will construct simple slab-built forms that will serve as a canvas for experimenting with these techniques.
