About This Activity

If regular fractions no longer make good ghost stories for the campfire, you’re ready to explore some deeper levels: continued fractions. Mathematics thrives on exploration and discovery, and now that you have mastered working with the ratio of two integers, you are ready to use rational numbers as a stepping stone to the rest of the real numbers. Continued fractions open a door to that wider world. They provide a clever way of reaching further, giving us efficient approximations of real numbers that resist that tidy fractional form. In this course, you will encounter some old friends, like pi and the square root of 2, while meeting new and interesting ones along the way.
