About This Activity
Overview: This session of our Basic Carpentry Skills 101 course is designed to create a welcoming environment specifically for genderqueer, non-binary, trans, and other gender non-conforming folx. We ask that you only sign up for this course if you identify with one of these groups. Basic Carpentry Skills 101 workshops introduce students to basic carpentry concepts of layout, cutting, and fastening, while building a pair of sawhorses that students will take home after the class. The skills learned in this class form a foundation for both rough carpentry and more detailed finish work. After this class, students will be able to safely use a range of hand and power tools and will understand the fundamentals of construction. Project Description: Students will build a pair of sturdy sawhorses that are theirs to take home after the class. These horses are constructed from 2x material and plywood, and serve as a good introduction to cross-cutting, ripping, cutting angles, and using plywood. Students under 18 may attend with parental permission.
