About This Activity
Join JHS as we dive into themes of compassion and explore how they intertwine with animal shelters! Students ages 13-15 will explore a different avenue of career opportunities available at the Jacksonville Humane Society and its connection to each theme: Empathy & Understanding, Collaboration & Community, Comfort & Care, and Generosity & Action. Club members will complete a variety of service projects benefiting the pets at JHS while implementing social-emotional skills to discover what compassion entails and how we can exercise it with pets, people and the world around us. Club meetings will be held on Saturday mornings from 10am-12pm, August 15th, August 22nd, August 29th, September 5th, and September 12th. Club members will receive their volunteer letters certifying graduation from the program at the end of the 5th session, September 12th. Students must attend the orientation on Thursday, August 13th at 5:00pm, with a parent or legal guardian. Orientations consist of a short presentation, general Q&A, and a short tour of the facilities. The purpose of this session is for teens and parents to learn more about Compassion Club and provide the opportunity for students to meet the staff that implement the program.
