About This Activity
Guest Intstructor, Kathryn Alter Attire: comfortable, well-fitting dance or athletic wear, socks or bare feet Limón movement principles for bodies that want to move: Using our relationship to gravity as a departure point, we will explore different ways to allow breath, weight, use of opposition, fall and recovery, isolation, and succession to enrich and initiate movement. Consciousness and application of these principles will allow us to access specific qualitative shifts in the body and increase our agency as expressive movers. We will explore how the manner in which we use the Humphrey/Limón principles constantly shifts the relationship between time, space, and energy. To explore the concepts, I will use a fusion of material from the repertory of José Limón and contemporary material of my own creation. The class will consist of phrase work in the center and locomotion through the space that includes explorations on the floor, standing, and air-born moments.
