About This Activity

This workshop will introduce participants to weaving on an Inkle Loom, a small loom that makes straps up to 3in wide. The result of this class will be a colorful hand-woven strap that can be used as a belt, handle, guitar strap … This course is appropriate for beginning weavers. (ages 7 – adult) All supplies including Inkle looms, shuttle sticks, cotton warp and weft threads will be provided. During the first session participants will learn how to prepare their loom (warp it) with the colors and pattern of their choice. During the second session participants will complete the warping process and start weaving their strap. During the third, optional, session participants will tie off and complete their projects. Timeline: 1st Evening (28th) 4:00-7:00 • Introduction to Inkle Loom weaving • Choose colors and patterns and learn how to warp the loom • Start warping your loom 2nd Evening (30th) 4:00-7:00 • Learn how to tie off your warp strings and begin weaving • Weave on your inkle loom and possibly complete your project! If you don’t finish during this class, you can take your loom home and finish up in the 3rd session 3rd Evening July 31st Optional Open studio time for independent weaving 4:00-7:00 4th and final evening (August 1st) 4:00-7:00 • Tie off weaving and add buckles, fasteners etc. to make the finished product of your choosing Instructor Bio: Katie Weaver has been teaching weaving and other fiber arts for 30 years at North Country School, Northwood School, and around the ADKs. She is a Lake Placid native and enjoys sharing her weaving knowledge with the community.
