Here's a cool way to make a suncatcher without the mess and hazard of working with glass. Kids arrange crayon shavings on wax paper. The instructor melts the crayons with an iron. Once cooled, the melted crayons can be cut into shapes to hang in a sunny window. A black border can be added around the shape to make it look even more like stained glass.
