PREREQUISITE: Students must have taken a sewing intro class or already know how to use a machine. If you have not enrolled in REACH’s intro class but is already skilled, please contact REACH to confirm fit. In this 4-week class, students will learn and practice skills that can be applied to garment construction projects, such as working with patterns, seam finishes, facings, and hems. This spring, teaching artist Sheila Moore will guide us through creating an apron or a tunic. Students will supply their own fabric and patterns. In the first meeting, we will discuss fabric options, how to measure the body, and how to choose patterns and sizes. DO NOT PURCHASE THESE until after the first class. Participants in Sew Fun courses may attend our Open Sewing Labs, where participants can bring in their own sewing projects to work on, get help with troubleshooting, and get sewing ideas from sewing experts! If you have a working sewing machine at home, you are encouraged to bring it to use in class. If not, we have sewing machines for you to use. This class is for adults and teens ages 16+. If you are registering someone ages 18 or younger and are interested in a scholarship, please contact us at 517-999-3643 or info@reachstudioart.org.
