About This Activity

LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION! This exciting STEM-based class will cover the basics of how to make and perform a science show from start to finish. Students will create fun and fast-paced science segments that focus on topics such as MAGNETISM, BIODIVERSITY, STATES OF MATTER and WEATHER. They will rehearse, film, and edit their original science segments and present a full episode of The Newton's Attic Science Show during the exclusive premiere at the end of the week! We are thrilled to welcome back Master Teacher Amy Mayer, a student favorite and beloved member of our instructional team, who is bringing an exciting new class to a variety of age groups this summer! Amy is a professional educator and Montessori-trained elementary teacher with more than 20 years of classroom experience, specializing in mathematics, science, and the humanities. A native of Cincinnati, Amy holds a degree in Theatre Arts from Miami University and earned her Master’s in Education from the University of Cincinnati’s Teachers College. She also studied theatre and dance at UC’s College-Conservatory of Music in their preparatory program. A passionate lifelong performer, Amy has been acting since the age of four and remains active on stage today with Studio Players in Lexington. She is also a dedicated amateur playwright, weaving her love for storytelling into her teaching. Amy recently retired from Sayre School, where she taught fourth-grade mathematics, language arts, and social studies. This summer marks her fifth year teaching with Newton’s Attic, where she continues to inspire young minds through her dynamic blend of creativity, academic excellence, and joy in learning.
