About This Activity

Thursday - Dec 3, 10, 17 | Jan 7, 14, 21, 28 | Feb 4, 11, 18 No Classes - Dec 21 – Jan 4 (Winter Break) 10 sessions x 90 minutes Make a sloth wake from its nap, a bird beat its wings, a dinosaur stomp. This session, every machine is a critter! Students build with LEGO and Technic using real motors, gears, cams, and light sensors, and every build grows in levels: build it, motorize it, level it up. Teachers keep each challenge just right, so no one gets stuck or bored. After every class, families receive a challenge report with photos of exactly what their student built. A taste of the builds: 🦥 Sleepy Sloth: A sloth that dozes on its branch and wakes with a wave of your hand. Learn how light sensors trigger motion. 🐦 Early Bird: A bird whose wings really beat, powered by one spinning motor. Learn how linkages carry motion. 🦖 Stomping Dino: A dinosaur that stomps forward on its own, one heavy foot at a time. Learn how cams turn spinning into stomping. How each class works: Every class is an arcade of levels built from one daily challenge, with eight ways to beat each build, from a first version to motorized extensions. Students build, test, and rebuild until it works, then team up with friends to tackle bigger builds. What your child gains: ⚙️ Real engineering concepts: power transmission, cams and linkages, sensors, load and balance 🧠 The engineering process: define the job, build a version that works, then rebuild it to do more 💪 Design thinking, persistence, and confidence No experience needed. And if your student took LEGO Robotics in the Fall, welcome back! The critters change every session, so every build is new. Safety and communication: Sign-in and sign-out texts let you know your builder is safe, and a local coordinator is reachable by text during class. Every instructor is Live Scanned and TB tested. Students use iPads running the class build app on local Wi-Fi, with no web browsing and no outside apps.
