About This Activity
Description
The YMCA S.T.R.I.P.E.S. Academy (Sports Training in Rules, Integrity, Positioning & Engagement Skills) is designed to help young adults build valuable leadership and officiating skills through hands on training in youth sports.
This academy provides participants with an introduction to basketball officiating, including the rules of the game, court positioning, mechanics, communication, and game management. Led by experienced YMCA sports professionals and officials, participants will gain practical knowledge and real world insights into what it takes to be an effective referee.
As youth sports continue to grow, there is an increasing need for trained officials who can help create positive, safe, and inclusive experiences for young athletes. The S.T.R.I.P.E.S. Academy is more than just a referee training program. It is an opportunity for young people to develop confidence, leadership skills, integrity, decision making abilities, and a sense of belonging while staying connected to their community.
Participants will have the opportunity to build skills, gain confidence, make an impact, and explore pathways to future leadership and employment opportunities. Upon successful completion of the training, participants may be considered for future officiating and employment opportunities with the YMCA.
Whether you are interested in sports, looking to develop professional skills, or seeking a meaningful way to give back to your community, the YMCA S.T.R.I.P.E.S. Academy is a great place to learn, grow, and lead.
