About This Activity
In this electronics basics TEEN (9th – 12th) summer camp (Session A), students will learn the basics of computer programming, electronics, and product design over the course of four, half-day sessions. The final project for TEEN Session A will be a custom electronic locking device similar to a home security system. Students will spend a portion of their time each day going through instructional exercises and the remaining time working together to build their final project. Students will complete their project using the sensors and components from their own personal Arduino kit and craft supplies that will be provided. Each session will be taught by Rob Walsh, who is a STEM educational expert from Excalibur Solutions STEM Academy. This camp is designed for high-school-level (9th - 12th) participants with little to no prior experience in computer programming or electronics. The basic content in this session has some overlap with Sessions B & C, but focuses on a different set of topics specific to the final project. Each student will be provided with their own Arduino electronics kit, which is included in the cost of registration, but may be purchased ahead of time (see pricing options). Upon completion of the camp, the students will be able to keep the kit. The Arduino kit we require is found on Amazon as the “LAFVIN Ultimate Starter kit with R3 board Mega2560 Mega328 Nano Compatible with Arduino IDE with Tutorial”. NOTE: This kit can be re-used for any of the three sessions.
