The Learn to Skate at Liberty University program is designed to serve the needs of both recreational and competitive skaters. The curriculum keeps participants enthusiastic about learning from the time they begin lessons until they reach their goals. Whether you want to reach a specific level or simply enjoy skating for fun, this program is the place to start! GROUP DESCRIPTIONS PRE-BEGINNER GROUP (Ages 2-5) Tots learn to skate and acclimate to the ice in a fun, relaxed setting with structured games. GROUP 1 (Beginner - Levels 1-3) Skills taught: One- and two-foot gliding Forward and backward swizzles and wiggles o Forward and backward stroking Forward and backward crossovers Snowplow stops and t-stops Games are included to help students apply the skills being taught. GROUP 2 (Intermediate — Levels 4-6) Skills taught: Three-turns Mohawk turns Hockey stops Forward and backward inside and outside edges Bunny hops Lunges Spirals and spins Shoot the duck GROUP 3 (Advanced — Freeskate Levels 1 & 2) Skills taught: Advanced jumps Advanced spins Dance sequences Focus is on edge quality, balance, and posture. HOCKEY (Ages 5+)* Hockey sessions are for anyone wanting to learn to skate in hockey skates. Participants will learn the basics of skating, such as forward and backward skating and stopping. ADULT (Ages 18+)* Adult sessions are for those who wish to learn the basics of skating. In this group, skaters will learn skills such as forward and backward skating, stopping, turning, and how to fall and stand up safely on the ice.
