Learn to Skate at Liberty University is designed to meet the learning needs of skaters of all ages and skill levels. Our progressive curriculum creates a fun, supportive environment that encourages confidence, skill development, and a lifelong love of skating. Whether you're stepping onto the ice for the first time, working to master new techniques, or pursuing personal skating goals, this program provides the instruction and guidance needed to help every skater learn, grow, and succeed. GROUP DESCRIPTIONS PRE-BEGINNER GROUP (Ages 2-5) Tots learn to skate and acclimate to the ice in a fun, relaxed setting with structured games. GROUP 1 (Beginner - Levels 1-3) Skills taught: o One- and two-foot gliding o Forward and backward swizzles and wiggles o Forward and backward stroking o Forward and backward crossovers o Snowplow stops and t-stops Games are included to help students apply the skills being taught. GROUP 2 (Intermediate — Levels 4-6) Skills taught: o Three-turns o Mohawk turns o Hockey stops o Forward and backward inside and outside edges o Bunny hops o Lunges o Spirals and spins o Shoot the duck GROUP 3 (Advanced — Freeskate Levels 1 & 2) Skills taught: o Advanced jumps o Advanced spins o Dance sequences Focus is on edge quality, balance, and posture. HOCKEY (Ages 5+)* Hockey sessions are for anyone wanting to learn to skate in hockey skates. Participants will learn the basics of skating, such as forward and backward skating and stopping. ADULT (Ages 18+)* Adult sessions are for those who wish to learn the basics of skating. In this group, skaters will learn skills such as forward and backward skating, stopping, turning, and how to fall and stand up safely on the ice.
