Description
In December of 2024 Major League Baseball released a 62-page, yearlong study on pitching injuries. Injuries during pre-season training has doubled from 2017 to 2024. Since 2010, days spent on the DL have more than doubled and UCL surgeries have more than tripled. Injury rates are also increasing at the youth travel teams, high school, and college levels as well. Contributing factors were high velocity throwing, weighted ball training, higher spin rates and less time off. Travel team and high school pitchers are more susceptible to injuries from improper pitching mechanics, decreased use of the lower body chain and not fully recovering between seasons/teams.The good news is that the likelihood of these injuries can be reduced through proper recovery exercises and improving pitching mechanics and strength in the off-season. To give local pitchers access to this specialized care UW Health Sports Rehab is offering this new program – Arm Care Recovery and Performance. This program will be led by Tony Laquitara, a physical therapist and athletic trainer who has spent the past 7 months working with the Toronto Blue Jays at their Player Development Complex.Thursdays for 6 weeks starting 10/2/25Instructor
