Taking Math assessments is sometimes the most frustrating part of learning Math. When you think you know the concepts well, a test or exam proves otherwise. How often have you blanked out in an exam or made silly mistakes? You usually know how to get the solution; doing it on command in a stressful environment is challenging. If this anxiety hinders some of your success in Math, then this is the camp for you. This camp will help you develop strategies, organization, and skills in preparing for assessments. We will find ways to retrieve Math information from your thoughts while learning and studying the material and taking a test or an exam. The aim is to build confidence, a critical skill when answering questions on any assessment. We will start building this confidence when a lesson is learned and not wait to develop it before a test. We will explore and practice solving different types of Math problems, some of which will be word problems, quantitative algebraic problems, problems requiring straight memorization of formulas, and multiple-choice/short answers. These types of questions often appear on standardized tests. We will have a series of ""mock"" exams to simulate the ""pressure"" students face when taking an assessment. This camp will be geared towards Middle School students and contain materials from the Pre-algebra and Algebra courses.
