Taking Math assessments is sometimes the most frustrating part of learning Math. When you think you know the concepts well, a test or exam proves otherwise. How often have you blanked out in an exam or made silly mistakes? You usually know how to get the solution; doing it on command in a stressful environment is challenging. If anxiety hinders your success in Math, this camp is for you. This camp will help you develop strategies, organization, and assessment-preparation skills. We will find ways to retrieve Math information from your thoughts while learning and studying the material, and while taking tests or exams. The aim is to build confidence, a critical skill when answering questions on any assessment. We will start building this confidence when a lesson is learned and not wait to develop it before a test. We will explore and practice solving different types of Math problems, including word problems, quantitative algebraic problems, problems that require memorization of formulas, and multiple-choice/short-answer problems. These types of questions often appear on standardized tests. We will have a series of "mock" exams to simulate the "pressure" students face when taking an assessment. This camp will be geared toward Middle School students and will include materials from the Pre-algebra and Algebra courses.
