Advisor: Mr. Biemesderfer and Mr. Lentz Email: Robert.biemesderfer@basisindependent.com; mark.lentz@basisindependent.com Participants will learn the fundamentals of speech and debate in a supportive environment. Students will develop and draw upon skills in research, speaking, argumentation, and refutation to quickly assemble persuasive responses to surprising and complex arguments presented by their opponents. Debate is one of the most respected extracurricular activities by colleges and universities for its ability to develop skills that are critical for future college and job success. The team is a serious commitment that will require research and preparation outside of scheduled practice to be successful in local, regional, and national tournaments. Students will compete in Public Forum Debate, a format of debate where students work in partnerships against opposing teams to debate a new topic each month. Note: All fees related to competitions (ex. registration fees, transportation, judging, and hotel) outside of our local league will be handled separately and are the responsibility of the parents. The advisor will inform you as these competitions occur. Please contact Mr. Biemesderfer or Mr. Lentz with further questions.
