Description
This ensemble introduces young musicians to the fundamentals of jazz in a fun, supportive small-group setting. Designed for students who are curious about jazz or looking to expand beyond solo lessons, the class focuses on building confidence through ensemble playing, improvisation, listening, and collaboration.Students will explore foundational jazz styles and repertoire while learning essential skills such as swing feel, rhythm section playing, reading lead sheets, understanding song form, and the basics of improvisation. Rehearsals will emphasize creativity, communication, and learning how to play together as an ensemble.
Guided by experienced faculty, participants will develop musicianship skills while gaining exposure to the rich traditions and exciting possibilities of jazz music. The class is designed to be welcoming and engaging for developing musicians, with an emphasis on growth, curiosity, and having fun making music together.
The session culminates in an informal performance where students can share what they’ve been working on with friends, family, and fellow music lovers.
