About This Activity
Description
In MacPhail brass ensembles, students challenge one another throughout the semester to form the best ensemble possible. Under the guidance of low brass instructor Karl Wiederwohl, students assess their strengths and weaknesses, consider how they affect their colleagues, and ultimately determine the quality of the ensemble's musical product. Dr. Wiederwohl fosters an environment where players can enjoy the thrill of achieving excellence while also learning to tactfully discuss when improvements need to be made. Dr. Wiederwohl's ensembles are open to brass students of any age or ability who are willing to check their ego at the door and brave enough to risk failure in pursuit of success. Groups typically contain a range of ability levels. Great care is taken to match players with parts congruous to their skill level. Groups will be scheduled after players are matched together. If you are interested in joining an ensemble, please contact Karl Wiederwohl at wiederwohl.karl@macphail.org to discuss which group is right for you.
