Dear Lynn-Rose Families; We have hit the ground running this school year and are off to a busy but smooth start. I am writing this afternoon to share an update to our music program. This applies to all grade 6 though 8 students, any students enrolled in grade 9 or 10 music (AMU1O & AMU2O) and any students accepted into the school concert band. As many families have witnessed at our Music and Art Gallery last spring, Mr Grundy has made incredible strides in developing the musical talent of the Lynn-Rose students. Music positively impacts a child’s academic performance, assists in developing social skills, and provides an outlet for creativity that is crucial to a child’s development. Based on feedback from our LRS families and Mr Grundy, we are pleased to announce a dedicated instrument rental program - students will no longer have to share class sets of instruments! This new program will avoid challenges with missing instruments and spreading of germs - it will promote better hygiene and enable students to bring their instruments home to practice more regularly. With approximately 100 students enrolled in our music program, the cost of dedicated instruments, mouth piece, basic supplies, insurance, and maintenance is significantly higher. We are pleased to share that the school was able to secure additional funding for this initiative, however are looking to our families to help support the music program. We have negotiated a very fair pricing system from Long & McQuade, whom we have partnered with for many years. The subsidy provided by the school covers the majority of the cost however we are asking parents to provide a cost-share portion of $155 which covers the entire school year. We understand that this is a new cost and that we are in times of financial uncertainties. Families are welcome to speak to me about alternative options available. We are looking forward to continuing to develop the musical talent of our Lynn-Rose students. Sincerely; Michelle Lau
