About This Activity
Description
Preschool Swim Program - Ages 3 - 5 years old At the Y, swimming is a life skill. Our swim lessons prepare kids of all ages to stay safe and have fun in the water, building strong swimmers and confident kids. In the pre-school age swim program, swimmers will develop personal water safety and basic swimming skills. As the swimmer progresses, strokes are introduced and techniques begin to be refined using an age appropriate approach. Stage 1-Water Acclimation - Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance. Children will learn to float, and glide on their fronts. They will work on gliding on their backs with assistance, and work on their self-rescue skills to move independently in the water. Stage 2-Water Movement- Encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently. Stage 3-Water Stamina- Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stages. Children will build their endurance, learning to swim longer distances on their front and back. Stage 4-Stroke Introduction- Introduces basic stroke techniques; front crawl and back crawl. This stage reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke. Children will be introduced to breaststroke and butterfly kick.
