About This Activity
Description
Exploring Klimt & KusamaJoin us for a creative 3-week adventure where young artists will dive into the inspiring worlds of two iconic artists: Gustav Klimt and Yayoi Kusama!
In the first part of the session, students will explore Gustav Klimt’s shimmering, golden masterpieces. They’ll learn about Klimt’s bold patterns, rich colors, and intricate gold leaf designs, drawing inspiration from famous works like The Tree of Life and The Kiss. Inspired by his ornamental style, kids will experiment with mixed media—including vibrant paints and gold foil—to create their own unique artworks, developing creativity, self-expression, and an appreciation for historical art.
Next, students will jump into the colorful and whimsical world of Yayoi Kusama, exploring her love of bold patterns, vibrant colors, and iconic polka dots. After a fun, kid-friendly introduction to Kusama’s journey, children will create their own watercolor papers and transform them into imaginative dot collages. This project encourages experimentation, contemporary art appreciation, and the joyful reminder that in art, there are no mistakes—just dots waiting to be discovered!
By the end of the session, each child will leave with two unique, inspired artworks, a deeper appreciation for both historical and contemporary art, and a big boost of confidence in their own creativity.
Meet your teacher:
Angela LeClair: Artist & Illustrator
A Tennessee native and graduate of the Art Institute of Atlanta, Angi now calls Montrose, Colorado, home, where she enjoys life with her husband and their three dogs. Nature is her sanctuary, and she treasures time spent hiking the trails with her furry companions—reminders to slow down and savor the beauty that surrounds us.
Art has always been Angi’s lifelong passion. She delights in illustrating children’s books and dreams of one day writing and illustrating her own. Angi is an avid learner and relishes sharing new experiences. She believes that life’s challenges feel lighter when we have something joyful to look forward to—and for her, art is that joy. Teaching is especially rewarding, as Angi views art not only as a way to connect and build community, but also as a transformative journey filled with endless possibilities.
