For the storytellers and the daydreamers, this camp will encourage kids to explore, practice, and embrace a love for reading and creative writing. Creative Quest will help foster the imagination of children who love hearing, watching, and/or telling stories. Participants will build early literacy skills through phonetic games, songs, and crafts. We will learn the components of story telling (ex. the beginning, middle and ending), have whole group story times each day, and of course, time for free writing in the camper’s personal journals. Along with creative writing, campers will participate in a Winnie the Pooh scavenger hunt and end our week with an Alice in Wonderland inspired tea party, where campers will have the chance to share the stories they have created. Whether by drawing pictures or writing sentences, students will get to create their own stories. Jade Rabah holds a Bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in creative writing. She is also a graduate of the 2023 Summer Publishing Institute at NYU. She has taught a Creative Writing Summer Camp at Woodlawn the past two years. Campers should bring a notebook, water bottle and nut-free snack to camp each day.
