Instructor: Danielle Rakhshanifar & Kira Dixon Downbeat! Music Camp at Oakwood School is an immersive performing arts experience where students explore music, movement, acting, and visual art in a joyful, high-energy environment. Designed to build creativity, confidence, and collaboration, this dynamic camp invites young performers to discover their talents while working together as part of a vibrant artistic community. What We Offer: Vocal & Choral Training: Campers develop healthy singing habits, including breath support, pitch matching, vocal expression, and control. Students rehearse daily in age-based choir sections and also come together as a full ensemble, experiencing the excitement of singing in harmony and building a shared musical sound. Instrumental Music & Songwriting: Students are introduced to ukulele playing and the basics of songwriting. Campers learn to read chord charts, strum and pick patterns, and explore how melodies and lyrics come together to create original music. Movement, Dance & Mindfulness: Each day includes expressive movement and choreography, bookended by mindfulness and yoga practices that promote focus, body awareness, and well-being. These sessions help students connect music to movement while building coordination and confidence. Acting & Theatre Games: Through improvisation, creative games, and short scenes, campers explore beginning acting techniques that strengthen stage presence, listening skills, and self-expression—all while having a lot of fun. Rhythm & Percussion: Hands-on rhythm instruction using boomwhackers and percussion instruments helps students develop timing, coordination, and ensemble awareness in an engaging, accessible way. Downbeat! Music Camp is more than a camp—it’s a week of discovery, creativity, and connection. Students leave with stronger skills, lasting memories, and a deeper love for the performing arts.
