About This Activity

Level I Good Shepherd is for children ages 3-6. Good Shepherd Level I Sessions begin in September and end in May. Level I sessions are offered on Sundays 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. or Sundays 11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Families are asked to select first and second preferences of the sessions which will allow them to attend Mass at Assumption. Your Assumption Parish Family offers families the choice of the following Mass times: Saturday 5: 30 p.m. Vigil Mass or Sunday 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 p.m., or 5:30 p.m. (September - May)), The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori-based religious formation program for children, beginning at the age of three. It seeks to create and facilitate a sacred, "hands-on" space for children called an atrium, in which both the children and the catechists can hear, ponder, and celebrate the most essential mysteries of the Christian faith as revealed in both Scripture & Liturgy. Children may join Level I at age 3- 6 entering their Kindergarten year. From CGSUSA: "The 3-6-year-old child is particularly capable of receiving and enjoying the most essential elements of our faith—the announcement of God’s love especially experienced through Jesus, the Good Shepherd, who died and is risen. Materials on the life of Jesus Christ and his teachings help to make the mystery of God concrete for the child. The heart of the catechesis for children under six revolves around the Parable of the Good Shepherd. Jesus announces that he is the Good Shepherd who calls each one by name. The sheep listen to the voice of the Shepherd and follow him. The 3-6 year old child enters the mystery of the Eucharist by first learning the names of the articles used on the altar and then through the most important gestures of the Mass. Through the experience of seeing these gestures, presented one presented one by one, the Mass emerges as the Sacrament of the Gift." Please see www.cgsusa.org for more information.
