About This Activity

This is the continuation of the DaZ Level 2 course from the Fall Semester. German language competency required to enroll in DaZ Level 2 – Spring Semester: Understanding: The student should be able to understand an expanded German vocabulary of words and phrases used in a classroom setting, and should be able to follow more complex instructional directives, for example, being asked in one sentence to complete several tasks. The student should be able to assign phonetic sounds to the correct previously covered letter or letter combination of the German alphabet. Speaking: The student should have an expanded German vocabulary of words and phrases used in a classroom setting, and should be able to express his/her ideas and needs in the classroom in more complex sentences. He/she should be able to correctly pronounce previously covered German phonetic sounds. Reading: The student should have knowledge of all German letters and sounds previously covered, and should be able to read out simple sentences containing the learned letters, letter combinations, and words. The language learner should be able to read and follow instructions containing more than one directive or statement. He/she should be able to read texts of approximately 10 short sentences consisting each of 3-10 words. Writing: The student should be able to write all previously covered German letters The student should be familiar with the sound of each letter, which is the foundation for writing. The student should be able to write short words, correctly complete short and medium-length words with gaps, and fill in the blanks in short sentences. Grammar: The student should have an intuitive understanding of how German grammar is used, and correctly apply in the most cases the article and conjugation. The Tobi Series is designed to support young students’ natural use of language. Therefore, no explicatory grammar exercises will be given in this stage of language learning.
