This is an A2 level German as a foreign language course for children in Grades 4–7. German language competency required to enroll in OBA 2: Understanding: The student should understand phrases and frequently used words related to daily life situations, including family, school, and hobbies, with visual support as needed. By the Spring, the student should also understand descriptions of apartments and directions. Speaking: The student should be able to use present and perfect tense in sentences and have short conversations on specific topics. By the Spring, the student should be able to give directions, talk about parties and festivities, and share his/her opinion. Reading: The student should be able to read simple texts such as letters and emails. Writing: The student should be able to write simple sentences using given phrases in letter or email format and fill gaps in short sentences. By the Spring, the student should be able to describe different settings such as a home or classroom. Grammar: Fall topics include numbers, articles (der, die, das), dative and accusative noun changes, conjugation, present and past tense, and subordinate clauses with weil, dass, and wenn. Spring topics add: possessive articles unser and euer, modal verb dürfen, comparison with als and so…wie, and two-way prepositions (in, an, auf, über, unter, hinter, vor, neben, zwischen).
