This is our first High School level course, the right course for students who attended Middle School German (Grade 7) German language competency required enrolling in German 3 – Fall Semester: Understanding: The student should be able to follow conversations to related topics like school, work, hobbies and actual situations. They will be confident using a dictionary to improve the areas of speaking, reading and writing as well as understanding. Speaking: The students should come to German 3, the first year of High School, with solid presentation skills, which will help them to take the DSD exams. The DSD exams can potentially be taken at the end of this class. Reading: The student should be able to read fluently in German any kind of short book and articles. He/she should be able to read and understand complex instructions and transfer them into action. Writing: The student will have reviewed and gained confidence in pronunciation of the language, e.g. "k" and "ck", "tz" and "z" as well as “das” and “dass”, which will help him/her expand his/her writing skills. Also sentence structure will be reviewed this semester. For further details please read the section on Grammar. Grammar: The student will have learned some tips on how to differentiate if words are to be capitalized. They will have gained confidence in applying comma rules. They will be able to define subjects and predicates in a sentence structure. The verb tenses will be reviewed and cases will be defined. They will also have covered past perfect in class.
