Open to rising 8th-11th graders. This course is offered during Term 2 only (6/30-7/17). This summer math class will cover key algebraic concepts such as simplifying, evaluating, solving equations, graphing, and understanding transformations. Students will also learn how to factor expressions, use the quadratic formula, work with radicals, and solve inequalities and systems of equations. By the end, they will be proficient in function notation, exponents, and applying these concepts to real-world problems. Detailed Topics: Simplifying expressions by distributing, reducing, and combining like terms Using algebraic operations on equations Solving linear equations and interpreting solutions Writing and graphing linear equations Graphing parent functions and transformations Solving quadratic functions with factoring and the quadratic formula Using function notation and evaluating functions Using radical and exponent properties to simplify expressions and solve equations Solving linear inequalities and interpreting solutions with number lines Solving equations and inequalities with absolute values Solving systems of equations and inequalities Using proper mathematical language and notation Using a calculator fluently This course is designed for students to remediate D or F grades from Algebra 1 in semester 1 or semester 2. It is also designed to prepare students for Algebra 1 or Algebra 2 with key concepts essential to success. It can also be helpful for students who are preparing for qualifying exams in math. Textbook: TBA Prerequisites: 7th grade math Prepares students for: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Algebra 2 Honors, Geometry, Geometry Honors
