Instructor: Cindy Birdsong

In this hands-on mixed media camp, teens will explore creative ways to combine drawing, painting, and collage into bold, layered artwork. Students will experiment with a variety of materials—such as acrylic paint, patterned papers, and clay—while learning how artists build depth, texture, and storytelling within a single piece. Campers will sketch expressive imagery, layer paint, cut and arrange collage elements, and experiment with color, composition, and texture. Along the way, they’ll discover how different materials interact and how combining techniques can transform simple ideas into dynamic works of art. Projects may include layering paper to create a mosaic-like painting and painting on alternative surfaces like vinyl records. Through guided projects and creative exploration, students will develop original compositions, build confidence in their artistic voice, and create a series of vibrant mixed media pieces. This camp encourages experimentation, creative risk-taking, and personal expression as teens create a collection of unique, one-of-a-kind artworks. On the final day of camp, we invite parents to a special reception to celebrate their young artists and to see the work your children have created throughout the week.
