Instructor: Anna McDowell Step into a studio where pop culture meets artistic experimentation! In this playful, hands-on teen camp, students will explore portraiture through the lens of celebrity culture while reimagining their favorite famous faces in the styles of iconic artists such as Mary Cassatt, Kadir Nelson, Kehinde Wiley, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol. Campers will build strong foundational skills by learning facial proportions and how to use the grid method to accurately compose and scale a face. Using a mix of acrylic paint, charcoal, colored pencils, and collage, students will develop their portraits while experimenting with color, texture, and composition. Each project invites teens to transform a recognizable celebrity into something entirely new—whether it’s bold and graphic, soft and expressive, or wildly unexpected. Along the way, they’ll discover how different materials interact and gain confidence in their creative voice. This camp is perfect for teens who love art, music, movies, and pop culture—and want to remix it all into one-of-a-kind artwork. On the final day of camp, we invite parents to a special reception to celebrate their artists and to see the work your kids have created throughout the week.
