About This Activity

This interdisciplinary, student-led workshop invites learners from 6-12th grades to create their own fictional worlds using a blend of creative writing, drawing, and introduction to the use of AI tools. Whether they're imagining a distant planet, a hidden kingdom, or a future society, students will explore storytelling through geography, history, language, and design. Designed especially for emerging tech designers, the workshop supports a range of expression, from budding writers, passionate artists, and creative designers with opportunities for harnessing their creativity. suto be inclusive, allowing students to express themselves in whatever is most natural. This includes design options such as; writing, sketching, mapmaking, or digital design. Students of all abilities and learning styles are welcomed and supported through teacher and tech supports. In addition to encouraging imaginative exploration, this workshop also introduces students to responsible and mindful AI use, including discussion around the energy consumption and environmental impact of these tools. We explore AI not as a magic solution, but as a co-creative partner—powerful and helpful when used intentionally. Instructor: Rachel Privett, M.Ed. is a PhD student in Educational Psychology with a background in encouraging creative design, teaching & tutoring, and creating inclusive educational spaces. She has worked with homeschoolers and neurodiverse learners across ages, designing student-centered lessons that blend creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. **All workshops include a break for lunch and free time with friends.
