Strong governance is essential to effective nursing leadership, ensuring decisions are ethical, transparent, and aligned with organizational goals and patient care priorities. This e-learning module, Enhancing Decision-Making and Accountability: Governance for Nurse Leaders, explores the principles and structures that guide governance in healthcare settings and the nurse leader’s role within them. Learners will examine organizational, clinical, and professional governance frameworks while developing skills to support informed decision-making, policy development, and quality improvement. The course also addresses common governance challenges and strategies for strengthening accountability and stakeholder engagement across all levels of leadership. Designed for nurse leaders in diverse roles, this module builds the capability to lead with clarity, integrity, and strategic influence within complex healthcare systems. Vanderbilt University School of Nursing is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation. To earn continuing education credit, participants must complete both the Nurse Leader pre-assessment and post-assessment. Upon successful completion, learners will be awarded 0.5 ANCC contact hours.
