Instructor: Jessica Lewis This workshop is designed to guide students toward creating a painting that doesn’t simply imitate a photograph but goes beyond what the photograph provides. Students will learn how to improve their photography to avoid the usual pitfalls in interpreting photos and learn what makes a good photo reference and how to improve upon it. We will study color relationships, creating volume, and space. There will be demonstrations on paint application, edges, brushstrokes, and color mixing. We’ll talk about ways to experiment and explore ways of seeing the picture and painting in ways that better capture the essence of your subject and the connection to your painting. Photo references will be provided for students to pick from. **Students will have the option to work in oil or acrylic paint.** On the final day of camp, we invite parents to a special reception to celebrate their young artists and to see the work your children have created throughout the week.
