In this handwork class, students will learn and build on skills for various fiber arts. Students will have the opportunity to learn crochet, spinning, weaving, and embroidery. In 3rd through 5th students are encouraged to challenge themselves, while still being provided plenty of support. This segment of years delves into the how; how does something go from raw materials to a useful or decorative object. Crochet continues to build onto and reinforce math skills, while spinning and weaving force students to slow their bodies and keep their focus on the yarn they are building and using. Embroidery begins our dive into color design, and how the use of colors can alter visual representation of objects. Students are encouraged to use their own creativity, while we all might have the same instructions, each student’s work will be different from their neighbor’s. Projects in this class are on a 3 year loop, so your student could take the class three years in a row and not repeat a project. Teacher: Katie Filer
