Kamishibaï is a traditional Japanese art form that blends storytelling, illustration, and live performance. In this 12-week creative workshop held in French, students will explore the cultural roots of Kamishibaï and engage in the artistic process of building and performing their own illustrated story. Throughout the program, students will: - Discover the origins and artistic tradition of Kamishibaï through examples from Japan and around the world. - Work together to adapt a short French story into Kamishibaï format as an introduction to the art form. - Create their own original stories using guided writing techniques. - Illustrate their stories on large-format cards (A3), combining visual creativity with narrative structure. - Rehearse oral storytelling techniques to build confidence and expression. - Perform and record their finished Kamishibai stories; videos will be shared with families at the end of the program. This workshop fosters imagination, literacy, visual expression, and public speaking—all while inviting students to step into the role of both artist and storyteller.
