We’re shooting a movie! In this two-week session, students will explore scriptwriting, acting, cinematography, set & prop design, costume design, and puppetry. No film experience required. Students will elect to work in a film crew or join an art department intensive: creating costumes, puppets, and props for the production. Students may choose one area or try a bit of everything! Filmmaking: Students work in small groups to write scripts, film, and edit—while learning the fundamentals of film theory. Film crews work closely with the Art Department to develop sets, props and costumes. Costume Design: Students will build large creature headpieces using cardboard and papier-mâché. We will also design costumes using repurposed materials and sewing. Puppetry: Students will create original creature characters with moving mouths and limbs, develop their personalities, and bring them to life on camera using green screen filming. We recommend our Post-Production Camp (July 27–31) for students that wish to dive deeper into editing, animation and sound design. The experience culminates in a red-carpet premiere—students will showcase their films on the big screen at The Broad Theater, with screenings held in August and September!
