About This Activity
Two age groups offered, each with different teachers. Ages 7-10 and Ages 10-12. This class is perfect for students eager to explore visual arts across a variety of mediums. Over the course of the semester, students will work with Art Camp 504 teaching artists to develop skills in illustration, drawing fundamentals, watercolor techniques, mixed media collage, sculpture, and more. Projects include costume pieces, clay figurines and miniatures, textured prints and more. Our goal is to nurture a love of art and creativity in our youngest artists! With a small group format, this class allows for individual attention and flexibility—projects are often guided by student interests and feedback to ensure an engaging and personalized experience. MEET THE TEACHERS: SARI JORDAN (they/them) is an independent artist and musician based in New Orleans with seven years of experience in early childhood arts education. As the 2024 Winter Artist in Residence at the Louisiana Children’s Museum, they led hands-on, experiential art programming for children and families. Inspired by whimsy, play, and curiosity, Sari encourages young artists to explore drawing, painting, collage, and creative self-expression while building confidence through the artistic process. MICHAEL BADGER (he/him) is a sculptor, fabricator, and lifelong Dungeon Master who has been leading tabletop role-playing games for over seven years. He builds parade floats and installation art using recycled materials and holds a Master’s degree in Creative Writing. Michael believes collaborative storytelling and world-building help young people develop creativity, problem-solving skills, and meaningful connections.
