About This Activity

Explore the exciting world of three-dimensional art in this hands-on Sculpture & Ceramics class! Students will create a variety of projects including figurines, wall hangings, trinket trays, and more while working with polymer clay, air-dry clay, and traditional ceramics. Throughout the session, artists will learn essential hand-building techniques, experiment with a variety of ceramic tools, and discover how to apply underglaze to their creations before completing a kiln-fired ceramic project. Students will also develop acrylic painting skills as they add color and detail to their sculptures. With a blend of teacher-guided projects and dedicated free-sculpture sessions, young artists are encouraged to explore their creativity while receiving personalized instruction in a small-group setting. MEET THE INSTRUCTOR: FAITH MCCASLIN-GROSSNICKLAUS (she/her) is a working artist and musician in New Orleans. She got her start working alongside her ceramicist parents at Bell Pine Art Farm in Oregon. Drawing inspiration from folklore, the works of Georgia O'Keeffe, and the flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest, she quickly developed her own distinct style under the moniker Bone China Designs. Faith is an equally accomplished musician. She began studying traditional Scottish fiddle at age 7 before attending the Academy of Arts and Academics in Springfield, Oregon, where she learned to integrate her different fields of interest, combining ceramics and costuming with theatrical musical performance. For the last 12 years she has travelled the country and abroad presenting her ceramic work and performing solo or in the band Roselit Bone. Since moving to New Orleans in 2024, she has been an active vendor at local craft markets, a studio assistant at The London Clayworks, and a teacher at Art Camp 504.
