Working in small groups, students will collaborate to bring their ideas to life—writing scripts, designing sets, creating props and costumes, rehearsing, filming, and editing their projects. Using footage captured throughout the year, as well as during Film Camp, we’ll work together to produce a 30-minute film telling the story of our adventures at the Creature Academy. The first few days focus on the fundamentals of filmmaking, including film theory, cinematography, production design, directing, and performance. Students will also build digital media skills such as animation, graphic design, and creating movie posters in Canva. This workshop is open to all experience levels, and students can choose roles that match their interests. For students eager to dive deeper into editing and independent filmmaking, we highly recommend enrolling in our Post-Production Camp (July 27–31). This additional week gives students the opportunity to create their own films, produce audio tracks in GarageBand, explore animation, and learn more advanced editing techniques. Students interested in screenwriting may also want to pair this experience with one of our Creative Writing Camps. The experience culminates in a red-carpet premiere—students will showcase their films on the big screen at The Broad Theater, with screenings held in August and September!
