Two session class, meets on Monday, June 1 & 8th. A soft and slow space to breathe new life into beloved clothing and textile items. Creative or visible mending is the magical practice of highlighting repairs, rather than hiding them. In this workshop, we will deepen our relationship to our favourite clothes or fabric items, and make them customized + one-of-a-kind! Imperfection, experimentation, and self-expression are encouraged! Artist Lexy Ho-Tai will guide students through various visible hand-mending techniques using patches. This is an introductory class; no sewing experience necessary. Bring cherished fabric items that you would like to creatively repair - something with holes, rips, stains or boring logos! Or, you can bring items that you simply want to add a little more personalized pizazz to! All materials will be provided, though you are invited to bring in fabric scraps that you may want to use or share with others. MEET THE INSTRUCTOR: LEXY HO-TAI (she/they) is an artist, educator and goopy human. She makes soft, squishy and strange worlds from reclaimed materials. Her creative practice is expansive and ever-changing, and she’s currently exploring wearables, puppets, installations, drawings, monsters, trash art, and stop motion animation. Lexy truly believes everyone is an artist, and loves using their practice to activate others’ creativity and self-expression through teaching, workshop and collaborative projects! Lexy’s bad at small talk, convinced that everything is made up, and uses art to explore alternative ways of being in this world. You can explore their creative world at lexyhotai.com.
