About This Activity

This one day camp is offered four times over the summer: July 7 & 8, July 28 & 29. Select the date that aligns with your student's age (5-7 or 7-10). PARASOL DECORATING: To honor New Orleans heritage (and JAMNOLA’s one-of-kind second line), campers will be guided through a parasol decorating class. We will brainstorm the many ways sustainable materials can transform blank canvases—honoring how we celebrate ourselves, our communities, and our culture. Students will decorate their parasols using sustainable materials such as bottle caps, bubble wrap, cardboard, fruit nets and more to transform their parasol into a one-of-a-kind work of art. The day ends with a parasol fashion show! MEET THE TEACHER: Heidi Jo Taylor (she/her) is an energetic storyteller and multi-media artist. With a special focus on creating art from found materials, she believes in cultivating a fun and safe space where young artists can explore their imaginations sustainably. Heidi loves constructing hands-on projects that encourage students to take creative risks and embrace their unique artistic voices! If you’ve visited JAMNOLA before, you may have seen a parasol or two crafted by Heidi; her most popular one utilized repurposed, royal purple Mardi Gras beads as decoration!
