Teen Ceramics Social - Includes pizza, soda and sparkling water! Join us for a hands-on introduction to slab building — one of ceramics' most versatile techniques — and leave with a beautiful, functional piece of your own making. In this workshop, you'll craft a ceramic wall pocket that can serve as an altar, a decorative shelf, a plant propagation station, a wall sconce, or simply a stunning piece of wall art. Using the slab building method, you'll shape your piece from the ground up, then add color and detail with underglazes while the clay is leather-hard. After the workshop, your piece will be glazed, fired, and ready for pickup within two weeks. All skill levels welcome. No experience necessary. MEET THE TEACHER: FAITH MCCASLIN-GROSSNICKLAUS (she/her) is a working artist and musician in New Orleans. She got her start working alongside her ceramicist parents at Bell Pine Art Farm in Oregon. Drawing inspiration from folklore, the works of Georgia O'Keeffe, and the flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest, she quickly developed her own distinct style under the moniker Bone China Designs. Faith is an equally accomplished musician. She began studying traditional Scottish fiddle at age 7 before attending the Academy of Arts and Academics in Springfield, Oregon, where she learned to integrate her different fields of interest, combining ceramics and costuming with theatrical musical performance. For the last 12 years she has travelled the country and abroad presenting her ceramic work and performing solo or in the band Roselit Bone.
