About This Activity
Participants will be introduced to collage techniques, design layout, printing/stamping and guided to create a piece of art that depicts an aspect of their personal history. Through writing, discussion, experimenting with materials and beginning with a guided visualization back to the first house they ever lived in, a Personal Prayer Flag, a wish/prayer of their intentions will be developed into a work of art. The content of the collage will unfold effortlessly through this process. Along with my artist/collaborator Jan Gilbert, an exhibit of our Louisiana Prayer Flags has been installed in the front of the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts to usher in the new hurricane season; the flags contain deeply textured imagery that reflect our culture and our environment. This meditation shrine/installation has an interactive component for passersby, encouraging them to join in by offering their personal wishes and prayers. This workshop is in connection with this exhibit. Having some personals items to look at or use in your artwork might be helpful: Optional only : photos, copies of photos, small objects with meaning to you, letters.....
